Operating system restart problem
« on: April 13, 2005, 06:45:00 PM »
Hi,

I have just installed Avast home edition V4.6 on a Win 2000 pro computer.

On startup, I am always being asked to restart the operating system.

What do I need to do to stop this?

Operating system restart needed by avast message could be solved by deleting the file <avast>\setup\reboot.txt
Can you see if it helps?

Removing reboot.txt has not corrected the problem, any other ideas?

So the file gets automatically recreated? (can you confirm that?)

Also, could you please post the last couple of sections of the file <avast>\setup\setup.log? By a section, I mean a block of lines. Sections are separated by one or two blank lines.

Thanks

I can confirm that the reboot.txt file is created auomatically and that today I am not getting the restart request.

Many thanks for your help.

I have been using Avast from awhile and this problem just started.  Where do I find the text to delete - <avast>\setup\reboot.txt?

Thank you

Tom you must delete that file (entire file) and not a text inside of the file.
It's on avast folder, subdirectory setup  :)

Hi,

I've got the same problem. I removed the reboot.txt file as suggested, but it keeps coming back along with the message telling me to reboot. I also looked at setup.log, in which I edited one of the last lines as follows:

vrb/fil  NeedReboot=true      in      vrb/fil  NeedReboot=false

This again didn't solve my problem. Does anyone have a solution, please help.

These are the last couple of lines from setup.log:

00:31:37 nrm/pkg  Transferred files: 0
00:31:37 nrm/pkg  Transferred bytes: 0
00:31:37 nrm/pkg  Transfer time: 0 ms
00:31:37 vrb/fil  NeedReboot=false  (used to say: true)
00:31:37 vrb/fil  MoveFileEx(C:\WINDOWS\System32\psa2.tmp, C:\WINDOWS\System32\psapi.dll)
00:31:37 min/gen  Return code: 0x20000000 [Something done]
00:31:37 min/gen  Stopped: 01.06.2005, 00:31:37

Greetz,

Erik

I edited one of the last lines as follows:
Erik, as far I know, this is a log file not a configuration file.
It's not read by the program, but wrote  :-\ :'(

Tech, of course I assumed this to be just a log file, but somebody mentioned someting about that log file so I thought why not give it try. Thats also why I posted a portion of it. Thanks for the reply, I still hope someone can help.

Erik
