Problem connecting to avast! account! windows 8 to 8.1 upgrade!

Hi, I'm having some problems trying to connect my computer to avast! antivirus. I've just upgraded from windows 8 to 8.1 and it auto deleted my previous avast! so I had to re-download and install it again. I've downloaded the most recent one version 9.0.2006.159 and once I got it installed it says I am unprotected. I tried pressing "resolve all" button but that doesn't do anything so I figured that I have to connect it to a avast account for it to work. I created a new avast account, activated it and tried to log in but i kept on getting the message "We could not connect your device to avast! Account. Please, try again later." It's been like this for the past couple hours and still doesn't work. Anyone know how to fix this? or do I need to revert back to windows 8...

Getting the same error after removing AVG and adding avast! on Windows Vista Home Premium
