« on: November 04, 2013, 12:12:38 AM »
Hi

But, u have noticed avast wont update (program ) automatically

I think the expected behaviour should see the allert avast needs to restart your system ...once the update operation has been completed but nothing happenef after 2 days waiting for tihis allert

I only see te information A new version of avast is avaliable if i try to update the virus definition

As i said i have both program and virus def set to automatic and so i think i should see the "avast needs to restart your system " but i have waiting for 2 days and nothing happens

How to fix it?

Thanks

It takes some days or weeks for the auto update download the new version. If you dont want to wait you can force the update manually

I have the "program update" set to manual.
avast will let you know if there is an update available.
The reason I have it set to manual is that I "always"
download the entire set-up file. That way if something goes
wrong I can do a clean install without having to re-download
the file again. I also save a copy on a flashdrive so I can install
on the friends I know computers.  :)

When you are talking of 200+ million users (they all can't update at once) the program update cycle can take a couple of weeks, possibly longer. The update cycle is to balance load over the update servers.

This issue has been for a while for me as well, tough mine are sometimes be slow to respond on search.

But yes setting it to Manually makes avast not to like it, lol. But yes i updates it manually  anyhow if its on auto.

But yes i would like to thanks as well as this one helped me to understand bit of the servers.

Are your friends updating it by themselves?
Even if they do, won't it be smarter and more secure to update as soon as possible?

Let say a week or two.
But more than a month for a program update? Why?
Even if they have a lot of users, it should update more frequently.

You don't have to wait, you can download it manually
It's not relevant when you have it installed on many computers - on some cases you don't want people to start doing it by themselves.
Besides, it should occur automatically. The main reason is security - you should want it to be updated as soon as possible.

Yes it should be updated asap. However "not" over loading the server is also important.
This has been explained to you more times than I want to count.

Please move on, or do you have an update fetish?  ::)

It is crucial to me to emphasize the point that even if avast have an overload issue, they should make sure its users get their security updates as soon as possible, and in an reasonable time frame.
So yes, you can say I have an update fetish... :-)

Please don't ask what is essentially the same question in multiple topics - that too is a resource issue also - it increases the load on those helping in the forums.

You're right, and I figured that these posts will be treated as spam.
However, I also replied here in order to answer and contribute to the discussion about these important matters:
  • The recommendation to set program updates to manual.
  • The recommendation to update avast manually.
  • The discussion about the time interval in which avast will automatically update itself.
I myself, just like you and others here, am willing to help the community and as such I try to contribute wherever I can in any matter I can.
Here I tried to contribute to the discussion and help any community member which has this issue and is investigating and searching about it. I believe he / she should have the two sides of the coin...

I hope I managed to answer your concern and to show that my intentions were, and still are, good.
