activity logging
« on: October 07, 2003, 05:36:32 AM »
Hello,

I would like to see a quick addition to Avast 4; that would be the logging of all incidents, detections, alerts, etc, including the users response.  The log entry should at least include:

- application generating fault
- fault description
- date, time
- choices provided to user
- action selected by user

I am asking for this because every time I do a windows search through the \windows directory tree, and it hits the 'inf' folder, a whole bunch of file write requests popup from Avast.  I mean it, every time I touch that folder with Search.  I want to record all the names, and submit it to MSFT or Adwil for identification of what these files are for.

Thanks,
Dave A.

Vlk, when the user choose one option for log (Emergency, Critical Errors, Errors, Information, Warning, etc.), does the other options are disabled? Could the user log all of the events or just one (Log Viewer seems to handle just one kind of events)  :-\

VLK,

Okay, I got a message that the service started.  How about messages that tell me everything that would appear in the popup window near the system tray?  How about the names of files being scanned realtime?  etc...  How can I get that info?

Thanks,
Dave A.

Dave, there are some settings that allow you to see more information ("Show detailed info on performed action"). The report folder of avast have some information too.
Maybe Vlk will be more specific and could help you more. Anyway, I tried...  ;)

Thank you for the additional info.  I have always left this option turned off because it generates the annoying yellow popup window near the task bar.  With this option on, what I don't find is this same data reported in any of the files in 'log' or 'report'.

Can anyone else offer any information?

I thought you want this information (You wrote: "How about messages that tell me everything that would appear in the popup window near the system tray?")...  :-\

"How about the names of files being scanned realtime?"
I think you can get this info at the Residents configuration (on-line scan) or at the status line of the Simple or Enhanced Interface... For me, no troubles at all  ::)
