Windows 7 says Avast anti-virus not turned on?
« on: November 09, 2013, 06:50:49 AM »
Hi,
I apparently just installed an updated version of Avast Internet security. Windows 7 reports that Avast Internet Security is not turned on. Avast Internet security says it is turned on and everything is working. Is there any way to make this annoying flag with an X go away?
Thank you.

Repair avast!:
1. Control Panel -> Add/Remove programs -> avast!
2. Click on 'Repair'.
3. Follow instructions.
4. Reboot.

If Avast is working you can tell windows not to monitor the status of security software via Action Center like this:

Try un-checking the virus and spyware protection boxes then select OK.

Its done this to me on every windows 7 pc I have updated Avast on. I have found that a simple reboot fixes the problem on most of them and on some I've rebooted 3-4 times before it was resolved.

Sometimes, Windows Security Center or Action Center stop recognizing your antivirus or firewall... So, check your system time and date. See also:  http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=23457.msg193534#msg193534

Run command line as admin:
net stop winmgmt
del C:\WINDOWS\system32\wbem\Repository
net start winmgmt

winmgmt /verifyrepository
winmgmt /salvagerepository

Sometimes all it takes is turning off the shields for 10 min. which will trigger Microsoft's security center.
At that point you can turn the shields back on and your troubles are solved.

Good hint.
Anyway, be careful and offline while turning off the shields :)
