Troubles since the upgrade to the 2014
« on: November 03, 2013, 10:46:08 AM »
Good morning,

Since I upgraded to the 2014 version, I can't reach for instance ModDB (I have to disable Avast, adding an exception doesn't work, nor disabling the web module), I have severe frame rate drop in vide games (disabling half the options of the AV works), and now since I updated yesterday I can't connect on Steam.

I would like to know what I can do to help, or where to find an installer for the previous 8.x version?

Thank you,

Mateos

Yes, yesterday; Restarting once more the OS allowed Steam to properly connect, but still can't reach ModDB and still problems with video games :/

Latest Avast, it is up to date.
Windows 7 x64, SP1, up to date too.
Nothing running in background, but there's Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware Free, Advanced System Care 6 PRO, haven't run them for a while.
I always used Avast over the years ^^

Avast Free; ASC has never been a problem, Avast is atm.

Edit: Btw, I don't have anything from ASC doing AV or anti-malware stuff, it's just for clearing.

If exclusions are NOT working.. you may have a corrupt install...

I'd recommend a clean install...

1. Download the right aswclear and the appropriate program

http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_free_antivirus_setup.exe
http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_pro_antivirus_setup.exe
http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_internet_security_setup.exe
http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_premier_antivirus_setup.exe

v8 and below : http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility
v9: http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avastclear.exe

2. Uninstall Avast by control panel  [If you don't have Avast in control Panel go to #4]
3. Uninstall in safe mode using aswclear (v8 or below) or avastclear (v9) [If you don't have Avast in control Panel just install it]
4. Download and install your version
5. Reboot.

You can insert license file during install or after reboot. (If using paid version)

If this is not to work, I'll link you the instructions to v8.0.1497.

Mateos ASC ( Iobit ) should be removed, even if disabled there are low level drivers active that can interrupt with the functioning of avast.

No secondary AV should be installed on any system whether working or not, Malwarebytes is fine as it is not an anti-virus.

This may or may not help with your current issue but it's better to not have ASC installed with avast anyway.

Hello,

Sorry for the delay, I don't have a connection during the week;

I uninstalled ASC; I downloaded the installer, uninstalled Avast! through the panel, ran aswclear in safe mode, and installed the software.

I still can't reach ModDB but I can ping it.

Started an analysis, nothing wrong spotted.

Any idea? :/

Edit: By the way the HDD is clean (CCleaner), and defragmented (O&O Defrag Pro).

1. In Web-Shield settings enable: Scan traffic from well-known browser processes only
2. Click OK
3. Reboot

Thank you, I can visit ModDB again! :)

Games seem to be loading at a normal speed now btw :)

Edit: It seems Avast! blocks the VPN software, turned on the VPN interface is forced off, turned off the VPN works fine, then turning Avast! on will not affect the VPN.

Edit 2: Rebooted, it's fine now :)
