I received a call from this number today...........
« on: November 12, 2013, 07:10:59 PM »

The person who called told me had problems with my computer and wanted to fix it.  He said I had a lot of malware on it and I told him I didn't but after I told him to never call again I ran Malewarebytes and I had 22 PUPs.  Could this person have put maleware on my computer via phone?

I did manage to find out that the phone number is in Washington State.

1. This is a very old scam.

2. absolutely not.

What you don't say what are the PUPs detected by MBAM ?
PUPs in themselves don't necessarily mean they are malicious PUPs could tools used for good or evil depending on what they are and who installed them. Which is why the information is required.

Some of MBAMs PUP detections are pretty lame.

I received basically the same call several months ago.

I told the rep(?)....

1) What to stick and where to stick it.
2) Where to go and how to get there.

What made it extra weird was this call was made the same day I had my HDD reformatted.
Even worse yet, I hadn't even been online since I was busy re-setting up my laptop.

The last time someone called me about my PC being infected. I told them who my parents where and how much they knew about them and technology. I said something to the affect of "I'm not going to let you take my computer over." THe answer was "Then go to * h311". Quite funny. THe next time the come calling I got some very beautiful presents in store for them. (Aka: Ransomware, Trojans, NavaShield (What a pain in the butt rogue AV), Worms etc)
