Problem reporting malware not detected by Avast
« on: November 12, 2013, 08:38:14 AM »
I ran a scan by MBAM using its rootkit. There was one malware detected:

HKLM\SOFTWARE\WOW6432NODE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS\CURRENTVERSION\EXT\PREAPPROVED\{11111111-1111-1111-1111-110011221158} (Adware.GamePlayLab)

I was unable to use Avast's Support > Report files to the avast virus lab feature because the reported file by MBAM was a registry key.

I recommend that Avast add the ability to report registry keys as well as files using Windows Explorer.

Hi, this registry key is adware related. I would suggested you to check your system:

Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool () by Farbar and save it to your desktop.

Note: You need to run the version compatibale with your system. If you are not sure which version applies to your system download both of them and try to run them.
Only one of them will run on your system, that will be the right version.

  • Double-click to run it. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
  • Under Optional Scan ensure "List BCD" and "Driver MD5" are ticked.
  • Press Scan button.
  • It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please attach it to your reply.
  • The first time the tool is run, it makes also another log (Addition.txt). Please attach it to your reply.

Magna 86: Thanks for your reply, even though it's not about the main point of my OP, that Avast add the ability to report registry keys as well as files using Windows Explorer.

MBAM quarantined the key.

But are you saying that MBAM may have missed something else?

I can't tell you anything without system inspection.
