YouTube Issues: An Avast Settings Conflict?
« on: November 19, 2013, 06:45:49 AM »
Im having huge issues with Youtube and have been for a time now.  Iv tried all the things detailed here:

https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/3037019?p=player_error1&rd=1

I just re-installed flash with using the uninstall tool to no avail.  Could Avast be blocking this? What settings might affect this in Avast (if any)?

I apologize this may have NOTHING to do with Avast (and Im not expecting it to either), but I cant get ANY support through Google, or other sites so Im here as a last resort.

It will start to load the video then start to 'choke', attempting to play in different video setting modes. Then it freezes with an error message that directs me to the above link.

Avast is the only thing left for me to check.

Which video ???
Are you sure the video is actually available
Are you using the latest version of Chrome? which already has flash built in.

Any video on YouTube I try to play in Internet Explorer. They play fine in Opera and when I did have Chrome they were fine there.

I want to play them in IE for sites that have issues in Chrome/Opera/FF.

Im not interested in going to Chrome... they already sold my data to the NSA for some startup cash.  Read my sig to see they didn't have too.  My own ISP was able to tell them no way... because its not in XMission TOS.

Don't know what version of IE you are using ?

Or if you have tried this - disable the avast online security add-on in IE and see if that helps.

I rarely if ever use IE and on this XP system it only goes up to IE8 and by all accounts early IE versions aren't having so much of an issue. But later versions if they have the IE advanced protection setting (or what ever it is called), you could try disabling that as another option to try.
Windows 10 Home 64bit/ Acer Aspire F15/ Intel Core i5 7200U 2.5GHz, 8GB DDR4 memory, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD/ avast! free 24.2.6105 (build 24.2.8918.824) UI 1.0.799/ Firefox, uBlock Origin, uMatrix/ MailWasher Pro/ Avast! Mobile Security

Same as DavidR, no problems with YouTube using XP, IE 8 and Avast 9.0.2008. Many YouTube videos are now in HTML 5 format which IE has never been good at. You can test IE and other browsers for compatibility at http://www.html5test.com/.

Now using IE11.  This post was put up when I was on IE10.  Iv tried disabling 'Protected Mode' with no effect.

As of late, on rare occasion I can get one or two YouTube videos  run but that's it.

Tried turning the player to HTML5.  It changes back and bam!!!  When I can make it play the HTML5 version they play just fine, of course.

I understand a lot of you don't use IE.  However, I have some sites that I need IE to use.  Personally, since Google sold my data to the NSA; I don't have much love for their 'open source' projects anymore.  And it was Google, not the NSA.  The FISA court simply requested something Google agreed to give voluntarily to get some federal cash for one thi8ng or another. One look at the link in my signature proves that.  My ISP didn't have to bend over for FISA one time... but that's a topic I  think most should examine on their own.

Its not that I wear a tinfoil hat... its about integrity and standards and how a company treats MY personal data.

Just for your information, when presented with the proper paper,
all companies must comply with court orders that included Google.
Nothing was sold, the information was subpoenaed.

No issue here with any YT videos and I'm using IE 11, maybe it's your ISP ( buffering )

Have you tried disabling all the IE add-ons?  I also had problems viewing videos on some sites and disabling all the add-ons in Firefox and restarting allowed the videos to play.  I then re-enabled them one by one and restarted Firefox each time until I found the culprit.  For me it was the Avast add-on that is the problem.  Good luck.

I'll try this.  Thanks.
