False positive in software updater
« on: November 20, 2013, 12:06:53 AM »
The software updater is telling me I have a Flash Player update. I've done it twice, but it's still showing update available, can anyone advise please?

Hi Jackdaw,

Most PC's need two versions of Flash, one for IE and a plugin for "other browsers". Which one does Avast say you need?

Thank you both.According to the updater,  the Plugin is up to date, the Active X needs updating. I have run the Flash update checker and it tells me they are both up to date. Despite this the Active X is still showing as an update. In Add/Remove programmes they are the only two showing.

If software updater is showing you have Flash Player Active X version 11.9.000.152 that's latest version.  Whenever it shows I need a program updated I don't update from software updater.......I go to the actual website and update from there.  ie........adobe.com.

If it does show that you have xx.x.xxx.xxx version number then you are still using avast 8 as avast 9 doesn't show this detail any more (which at times was confusing). The avast 9 version of the software updater has I believe ironed out some kinks in the avast 8 version of software updater.

@ Jackdaw
What avast version are you using ?

The program update notifications are spread over a few weeks to balance the load on the update servers. So it isn't too unusual not to have received a notification.

One advantage of being a forum regular, you get to see beta release notifications, so you know there is a program update in the offing. Obviously when a program update is released there is a notification in the forums.
