Internet security causes system problems
« on: May 03, 2014, 08:05:37 PM »
I paid for the internet security program and it gave my computer various problems.

I called support and they said it was my Machine.

So I went back to the FREE Avast program and it worked perfect.

So much for the "paid" program !

Why not try to solve the problem(s)?
What OS/SP?
What exact version of avast (the paid one)?
What other security software is/was installed?

avast doesn't have phone support, it is a third party.
Support is given here or through the contact form.

After the update to 2014.9.0.2018 I too have problems with the paid version (it may even be happening with the free version, I dunno).
My problem is in the action center, Windows is reporting that both Virus Protection, and Spyware are off. (see http://imgur.com/T2O5cB6.jpg )
Then, when I mouse over Avast Internet Security in the task bar, I get a 'Everything is good' message. (see http://imgur.com/JqFIScS.jpg )

This has happened before with the previous update, and it fixed itself after I subscribed. I am not running any other AV programs.

Windows 8.1 Update 1 x64
16GB Ram
Um dunno what else you guys would need to know, if theres anything, just ask.

Would like to get this sorted as its happened a few times now, Always quite annoying.

@Anarkii

Right click the Avast Icon
Disable shields
Leave for a minute or two and then re-enable shields

The Internet Security Version has the 'Firewall' and the Free Version of Avast is just an Anti Virus.
Possibly the Firewall change that is new is causing an issue.

Everything appears to be running as normal, thank you good sir :)
The sheilds appear to turn off after 10 mins or so, ill report back then with a update to let others know if it completely solves the problem, specially if they too experience the same things.

There seems to be a 'glitch' between Action Center and Avast  in that the center doesn't recognize Avast modules running.
Turning the Shields off (disable)and then back on (enable) syncs the processes. :)

Just cofirming that it does indeed fix the problem. 15 minutes later everything is still good.

Thanks again :)

Every time I turn my computer on it's happening on the free version. True, the disable the shields trick works every time but it's getting really annoying doing it every time, ie a few times a day. Is there any permanent fix?

Free version of avast! does not come with the avast! firewall.  You should be running only the Windows Firewall together with the free version.

If you've had other a/v programs installed in the past and then removed, consider removing all remnants of old a/v programs using this link:  http://www.avast.com/faq.php?article=AVKB11#artTitle  Search thru this link and run one tool at a time and reboot after running only that one tool.  Repeat as necessary for any other old a/v programs and reboot after running each one.  Better now?
Windows 10 Home 64-bit 22H2 Avast Premier Security version 24.1.6099 (build 24.1.88821.762)  UI version 1.0.797

I know that, that's why I was disputing the fact that it was thought to have been the updates to the firewall.

No, I've done that before, as well as not had this issue before a week or so ago, so I doubt it's remnants of old AV doing it.

It's only when I turn on the computer 9/10 times it's there saying that Avast isn't on. The issue isn't how to get rid of the notification, it's more-so the fact that the notification is there telling me that Avast isn't active.

It does seem like a sync issue though, because once the shields have been deactivated the notification goes.
