Avast Web Shield "Allow Connection"?
« on: November 22, 2013, 11:03:54 AM »
Hi guys,

first of all I'd like to apologize for any mistranslated terms, I'm using the German AVAST! Version.

After using MS Defender for a while, I switched back to AVAST and I'm having some trouble getting used to the new version. As a software developer, it happens from time to time that I want to download a file, even though I know it's a virus, to be able to analyse the file further.

However when I'm trying to download the file, the only option AVAST gives me is to cancel the connection, nothing else. So do I need to add each link to the white list if I want to download a File? why can't there just be an "allow connection" alternative? I mean, cancel connection is the default anyway, but even after changing the default to "Ask what to do" there isn't any other option...

Regards,
Xaser

have you changed these settings!

AVAST>>SETTINGS>>ACTIVE PROTECTION>> WEB SHIELD SETTINGS>>ACTIONS>>
there you will found a combo box with two options->
1. Abort Connection
2.Ask
------------------>selected

No sorry, that doesn't help.. as I said in my first post already, even if you set the ComboBox to "Ask" the "Ask"-Window's only option is to abort the connection.

Yeah well that was sorta the last option... However I just want to download the file, under no circumstances execute it. If I disable the shield and accidentally run the exe, that would be .. bad. Even though its in a VM..

Maybe create some kind of feature request for this?

isnt that the point with a VM ... to execute the file/virus in VM and see what it does?

In some cases, yes.

However there are plenty of ways to analyse a virus without actually having to execute it.

Well I guess it's just not possible. SO is there a thread or something where I can add this as a feature request?
