hi,

If you can screenshot the msconfig entry, then we will know exactly what you are talking about.

Attach the .jpg in your next reply.

[EDIT:]  Similar thread elsewhere in the avast?/free/pro/suite forum here:  http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=140730.0

See Vlk's explanation of what this is and what it does within that thread here:  http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=140730.msg1025160#msg1025160

There is no need to remove this feature as it has already saved avast! users from severe grief at least twice already.  Just because WinPatrol notifies one of a new entry does not mean one automatically blocks or removes that entry; research is needed before one does that.

Not seeing any issues whatsoever here regarding the running of emergency updater here.

Just posted whilst you were posting.  See modified post just above your last for more information.

It's a good thing you guys are running WinPatrol on your systems, but one also needs to know not all notifications are necessarily potentially malicious in nature.  Sometimes it is a notification just for informational purposes, which is what this is really beginning to look like.  Learning curve applies.

You're welcome.

Sorry, did not see that was the standard msconfig, but now that I've looked again, that is correct.

One thing I've noted, is that sometimes users are asking about something they don't yet understand (which is always good), but some of them seem to take prior actions out of fear or suspicions rather than actions based on discovery of the truth, and then go from there.

Google is your friend, as are we, and I fear some will do something to their systems that will damage it or weaken protection because of that, and also because they are afraid something bad is going to happen.

You could wind up in a far worse place if that happens to you.  [EDIT:]  That is, your system got damaged because of something you inadvertently did to it.

Not every unknown process or start-up entry is malicious, in fact, relatively few of them are, as malware will almost always be designed to hide the fact that they are starting up when you boot your system, the better to run unnoticed and unseen by you, the user.

So, caution and investigation are always the best way to go with this sort of thing.  There is only so much one can do to prevent disaster.  Certainly one does not want to be the cause of such.  New malware is written everyday just to get around avast! defences, and one cannot prevent all issues because of that.  avast! certainly does what they can to help, I can attest to that, but they cannot cover everything.  No one can, but avast! is using cutting-edge technology here to help all of us in that regard.

Tip: Consider installing a disk imaging program so as to be prepared for your worst case scenarios.  But as this is definitely off-topic, ask about this in a new, separate topic started by you and we will be glad to answer any questions you may have there.

Reason you can't find this advanced uninstall to is because the name is misspelled.

RejZor is the user name and the tool can be found here:  http://rejzor.wordpress.com/avast-cleanup-tool/

This is an advanced tool and removes more stuff left behind than the standard aswclear.exe.  So, if anything could interfere with proper operation of the newest version, this will remove those left-over remnants for you.

Computers are funny like that, terminology and spelling must be exactly right to find whatever, else it cannot be found.

Many thanks for your clarification and the link, mchain! :)
