Password problem
« on: November 24, 2013, 10:24:44 PM »

I'm new to this so excuse me if I'm posting in the wrong place also sorry for my inglish

Avast is asking me for a password in order to let me run an anti rootkit program and in order to let me see avast settings. Only password I remember is for Avast account and is not working for this propose.

I found this solution on the internet

 https://support3.avast.com/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=1026

But I don't understand where am i supposed to write "new" password.

Another solution is to unninstall reinstall, but I don't want to do this also it will not solve setting acceses problem

It's worth a shot.. if you never set a password... leave it blank. Don't enter anything and click okay.

If you don't remember the password then.. a clean install will reinstall avast and reset the password. Here is how to do so:

I'd recommend a clean install of v9.

1. Download Avastclear, Rejzors uninstall tool and the appropriate Avast program edition

http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_free_antivirus_setup.exe
http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_pro_antivirus_setup.exe
http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_internet_security_setup.exe
http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_premier_antivirus_setup.exe

Avastclear : http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avastclear.exe
Rejzors Uninstall tool: http://rejzor.wordpress.com/avast-cleanup-tool/

2. Uninstall Avast by control panel  [If you don't have Avast in control Panel go to #4]
3. Uninstall in safe mode using Avastclear.
4. Run Rejzors Uninstall Utility in Normal Mode (removes traces avastclear doesn't) - reboot.
5. Install the version you downloaded.
6. Reboot.

I think i'm in trouble. I downloaded unnstalling tool and preceed in safe mode then it asked if I was sure of location so I click no but it still uninstalled avast, I tried to open sopho and got a maessage with Avast logo.

Something about language not being selected or something like this.

Sould I try to unninstall again?

What's sopho? Do you mean Sophos antivirus ?

Do the steps again and the location should be C:\Program Files\AVAST Software\Avast.

Remember you need to run both avastclear and avast uninstall utility.

Should I use it now?

Why are you running Sophos Anti Rootkit? Avast has anti-rootkit scan after 8 mins on startup.

Do all the steps mentioned please. It is clearly instructed in steps...

The location to delete is C:\Program Files\AVAST Software\Avast. (Assuming your windows is installed on drive C)

i downloaded Rejzors Uninstall tool: From this link  http://rejzor.wordpress.com/avast-cleanup-tool/

but it was the same tool I already use my computer save it with a (1)

I see a message

safe mode (recomended) Yes

Normal mode No

Should I go No

Pondus I ran my computer for almost a year on Security Essencials only I've found 3 trojans and avast was talking about this rootkit gen susp I just wanted to be sure

You choose yes and it logs you onto safe mode...

Then you run that Avastclear...

Here is a link to the cleanup tool: https://skydrive.live.com/?cid=94a12102e5094675&id=94A12102E5094675%21952&authkey=!AHu_KR3cJN1jHt4

Alikhan I ran unstalling tool in safe mode again and location was empty the first time i choose my version, so I think I'm done with it.

I will use the other tool now.
