rpc error
« on: June 07, 2005, 09:00:06 PM »
I've got this problem which is exactly stated in the FAQ: There´s a red circle on avast! a-ball icon in system tray and when I click on it, the error message appears saying "the AAVM subsystem detected a RPC error". How to fix this?
BUT: the given solution doesn't work for me. I have W2K and when I go to Services menu in Computer Management I can't find any avast! service! RPC is running fine (automatic) but the avast! service seems to have disappeared! anyone got some help!? I did have 2 trojan horses the other day. maybe that screwed things up?
Thanks so much for helping me out!

Hi Powergozer, you're not alone:
I've got the same pb for two weeks now; I really don't know what is it ???
Hope someone here can help us 8)
In fact, in this case, I just restart my desktop and everything is ok ::)
Is there an alternative solution?: I don't want to uninstall Avast! and re-install it...
Thanks for advice ;D

I'm not sure but I've notice that my Avast! RPC error popup warning is due to MS updates: Windows installer 3.1 (KB893803) No one here to tell me if I'm wrong ::)

Le fichier VPS a été détruit...
In fact, some VPS updates bring me errors either... VPS package is broken...
But, after trying a manual update, everything goes fine...  ::)

"AAVM subsystem detected a RPC error". How to fix this?
RPC error is generally related to other antivirus present or, at least, firewall blocking. RPC error may also be because of avast! services being stopped.

Anyway, RPC error is most likely correct by this procedure:
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Remove
Then choose Repair function in the pop up window (Repair).

If this does not help, can you uninstall / boot / install / boot again?

No, I have Windows Installer 3.1 and Windows Update version 6 and nothing wrong happened.

Niko, are you using TeaTimer, Ad-Watch, PrevX, Microsoft Antispyware, etc. or any other product that monitors startup items (registry, links, services, etc.)?
Are you disabling this applications to repair and/or install avast again?
Are you using any other antivirus in the same computer?

I'm using only the best AV, no need to have two on my desktop ;)

I'm only using Ad-Aware and Spybot (but this programs don't start automaticaly with XP) With msconfig I've shut down RAM Def...and I've no more pb ::)
Hope this will go on like this!

Thank again, Tech
Take care.

Niko, this is strange. How are set avast! services to start?
Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services?
See how the 4 avast! Services are set to start (manual or automatic)...

Hi Tech, here's what you ask me:

Avast! mail scanner is set to Manual start
Avast! web scanner is set to Manual start too
This settings look good, no?

I wish you a very good week-end 8)

Avast! mail scanner is set to Manual start
This is the only one which is manual started...
All other avast services must be automatically started.
