Getting a new computer...
« on: December 01, 2013, 07:30:16 AM »
So I literally just bought a year of antivirus pro for my laptop a few days ago, however I dropped and broke the laptop, and so I'm getting a new one.
Being that I just bought the full year for one PC I'm wondering if I can transfer my year from one PC to the other.
I have a windows 8.1 gateway laptop and will be buying a windows 8 toshiba laptop, i don't know if the brand or OS matter, though.

I appreciate any help and/or answers.

did you buy a 1 year for one computer....or multiple computers?     if only one computer, then uninstall on old before installing on New

OBS: be aware that ne computers often come With a factory installed trail Version AV ....usually Norton / McAfee / TrendMicro
this must be uninstalled before installing avast

General: Uninstalling a third-party antivirus software  http://www.avast.com/en-eu/faq.php?article=AVKB11#artTitle

You can usualy know what will be pre-installed by manufacturer.

HP has Norton Internet Security or Norton 360 pre installed.

ASUS has McAfee pre-installed. I had it here my laptop.

It will be difficult to uninstall avast Pro when the OP dropped and broke their laptop.  ???

Yes my HP computer came with Norton, however the Asus laptop didnt come with any pre installed AV(Well other than Windows Defender) so that may not always be the case.

If it has an Intel processor it will have McAfee.
Intel owns McAfee.

This is all academic unless the OP can salvage the HDD.

I had McAfee installed with my new asus laptop. However my desktop, which has an asus amd motherboard has Trend Micro Titanium in the installation DVD.

You may try taking out the hard disk (Hope it's not broken too), put it inside a desktop cpu or working laptop, and boot from that hard disk. Uninstall avast from that hard disk and recover your licence.

Well lucky me cause my ASUS G75VX-T4153H notebook didn't have any security add-on software been included in my new notebook when I bought it ;)
