I think i can answer and do the two birds thingy

I'm running Winme plus Avast (home) and morpheus 4.9 (morpheus.com)

Heres what i know ..

1. Avant resident protection normal or high doesnt seem to matter

2. Morpheus loads then 5 seconds later

" morphexe has caused an error in <unkown> "

3. Regular and consistant like the swiss watch

4. I have tried pausing all the individual parts thru on-access controls the morphexe error still loads exactly the same

5. IF i stop all controls thru the  "Stop on-access protection" option THEN morpheus runs AoK .

at your service .. i'd like to keep my beloved Avast operational as possible throu all this too :)

Does it help when you stop the Standard Shield provider (not pause)?

Hmm, I'm having a bad feeling that it's some kind of stupid "copy protection" (executable packer) conflict.
Can you please tell me more details about your system, in particular:
- what is the exact build of avast! you have installed?
- what is your operating system (exact build, language version)

ALWIL Software - avast! Antivirus Version 4, 6, 0, 0

Windows Millennium Edition (build 4.90.3000)
ENGLISH

I assume that WinMe is responsible for 99% of all the erratic behavior of this computer .. When i talked to microsoft about a bizarre number of windows protection errors etc they advised that i unistall all firewalls and antivirus software and surf without any of that !!! Yikes!!!

hehe .. i promise to upgrade to WinXp sooner than later for reasons of general sanity protection ..

your advice is very much appreciated btw .

Hmm, there were no changes in the relevant code since avast! 4.6 first release...
If you browse to your Windows\System folder and check the properties of kernel32.dll - does the FileVersion field also say 4.90.3000?

You may try one more thing: start DrWatson (Drwatson.exe). It will run on background and when Morpheus crashes again, it should pop up and record some info about the crash. I'm not very optimistic about it, but maybe the log (File / Save As) would contain some useful info.
