Avast Firefox plugin doesn't save settings between restarts; resets toolbar

hi guys, i just installed Avast antivirus(program version 2014.9.02008) for the first time.

There are 2 issues I'm having with Avast plugin for Firefox.
1, Avast plugin doesn't save settings between browser restarts. Yes, I do have setup Firefox preferences to clear all cookies when i close Firefox. Is there any workaround for this?

2, Avast plugin icon resets Firefox navigation toolbar every time I restart Firefox. I would like icon on the status bar(at the bottom) but after every restart, Avast icon reappears on top, and brings back navigation toolbar with it, even though i had removed navigation toolbar entirely.

You need to retain cookies if you want to retain anything other than the default AOS settings - see screen shot.
