How I re-installed Avast after an unsuccessful uninstall.
« on: December 05, 2013, 09:32:35 PM »
I had to re-install Avast after an online update that was unsuccessful.
The repair function didn't work, and an uninstall in which I also used the uninstall utility would not let me reinstall.
The new install would say it could not proceed because of active avast drivers.
So I used Process Hacker and went to the services tab, and typed in avast. Three services came up. I right-clicked and deleted them (on reboot).
After the reboot, the avast installer said it could still not proceed, it told there were still components running.
I went to the C:\windows\system32 folder and typed in asw in the search box in the upper right corner.
In the results that came up, I right-clicked and selected properties. Any search result that had a digital signature that said Avast, I deleted.
I rebooted, and this allowed me to install Avast again.
