Attention: Firewall is off

Hello,

When I go into the avast! Internet security icon on my desktop, it immediately brings something up saying "Attention: Firewall is off", and then there is something next to it that I can click that says "turn on". However, whenever I click this, it just says "Unable to start firewall!" without giving any explanation. I have no idea why this is, but earlier today, I installed Ubuntu onto a flash drive and ran it on my computer. I think that may have something to do with it, as I'm pretty sure the firewall has been on up until this point.

So...how do I turn on the firewall?

controlpanel > ad/remove programs > avast > uninstall/change > repair option....wait a minute and reboot
