Yes true Eddy but most programs will report an update, and the risk from opening a PDF file is comparatively low compared to a malicious file or execution of a malicious script from the net
My point was Avast has allegedly caused my BSOD yet there seems no fix - also today my friends PC stopped connecting to the internet after installing the latest Avast update - I was there fortunately at the time, the wireless adapter just wouldn't connect and wouldn't then find a wireless network I had to remove Avast then the wireless PCI wireless card, reboot machine restart and install driver from the original CD
Before I uninstalled Avast the wireless card was not working properly - now it is I have seen exactly the same over the last two weeks on separate XP machines each with Avast- each time the owners bought new PC's now I'm wondering if there could be a link?
