Avast after KAV
« on: June 11, 2005, 12:40:10 PM »
Hi,

I have Just installed Avast home 4.6. I have uninstalled KAV 5 Personal before installing it.

However, on szstem boot, I get an Avast pop/up sazing that KAV is still running and therefore Avast on access scanner, p2p and other shields can-t run...

I don't se anz KAV related processes in task manager. It's WinXP Pro, Which Avast related processes should I see In Task manager, just in case that Avast is running normally?

Any suggestions?

TIA

There is likely to be some remnants in the registry that avast sees and rather than have two resident scanners avast doesn't install some of its components to avoid a conflict that may lock up your system.

This has been covered in the forums so a search for 'KAV uninstall' without the quotes (or similar) should yield some information.

Do you have any other KAV programs such as their anti-hijack program (or similar name, I can't remember), this has also produced the same issue.

Thanks David and Ylap :)

It was the "klif.sys" file in C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers that needed to be deleted.
I found a reference to it to this issue in another similar topic on this forum.

Thanks again, I like Avast so far... for the last three hours or so :)

Happy to help, welcome to the forums, one of the best things about an AV is support, if you don't get it when you experience a problem the software is worthless.
