AvastUI.exe will no longer start

i'm having a strange issue, no virus or spyware detected,

im MSconfig, Startup tab, the file:

c:\program files (x86)\Avast Software\Avast\AvastUI.exe* /nogui

this will not start, i check the box, click apply, the box gets unchecked as soon as i apply.

Avast's icon no longer starts up either.

Services 'Avast! Antivirus' start up,
Startup 'C:\program files\avast software\setup\emupdate\1283b379-635e-489f-b4dd-f9334e7c2461.exe /check ' starts up

This issue started after i had to do a diognostic startup. (not safe mode, diagnostic startup in msconfig)

Running on Windows Vista 64 Ultimate.

Try a repair of Avast initially

Control panel > Programs and Features
Select Avast
On the left select repair
When done reboot
