he gets a bunch of ads that pop up when he is in google chrome that shouldn't be there at all and sometimes even on his desktop.

Ok according to Malwarebytes log that computer seems to be a adware city

also run AdwCleaner... after scan click clean ..and post log.  http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/

then wait for removal experts to arrive.....
