UI issue with avast 9.0.2008.177
« on: December 13, 2013, 12:05:58 PM »
I updated from avast 8 to avast 9 pro today and after restarting i got that "what's new" splash screen. but after that avast ui doesnt show. an i get an error message saying:
"The instruction at 0x00000000 referenced memory at 0x00000000. The memory could not be written. Click on OK to terminate the program."
And this keeps on coming up as many times i close it. The avast icon also isnt there in the tray (it's blank). I cant uninstall, change, repair avast either. I used windows troubleshooter and it said there is a compatibility issue. I run windows 8 64bit. i also have win7 64bit and 32bit pcs, and the same thing happened.

i should have the trial version of avast pro. i always liked avast, it never gave troubles, but now this is really bothering.  >:(

Hi Manco,

U can't uninstall, change, repair avast!!! That's weird... what previous antivirus did u have before Avast? If you had a previous antivirus different from Avast, use it's removal tool from here http://www.avast.com/en-eu/faq.php?article=AVKB11#artTitle

How about you try this:

1) Run this tool in safe mode http://www.avast.com/en-nz/uninstall-utility and follow the instructions.
2) Run this tool in normal mode. Tool is called Avast Cleanup Tool from here http://rejzor.wordpress.com/avast-cleanup-tool/

After you ran the Avast Cleanup Tool, do a manual restart of your computer. After that has been done, install a fresh new copy of Avast. After installations is finished Avast will do a start-up scan. When the scan is finished, do another manual restart of your computer.
