I have already tried the beta version of avast, with no luck.

Just to be clear here, you did use the online installer I linked? Did you run it from the Desktop and as admin?

I didn't run it from my desktop, but I ran the one you sent and as admin, yes.

Meh, I'm out of ideas here. The last thing I would suggest is running it from the Desktop as admin.

I really love avast and it would be a shame to have not choice but  not to use it (especially after paying for a year a few days ago -.-).

Excellent news guys!

I ran a malwareBytes full system scan and removed all the PUP etc that were detected. I then repaired my avast and BAM! Firewall is up and working.
