Avast 9.0.2011 & Zonealarm Free Firewall
« on: December 19, 2013, 09:36:19 AM »
A couple of nights ago windows XP pro on my wifes PC was reporting Antivirus was out of date despite Avast saying all was well.

Last night Avast updated to 9.0.2011 and all was well, until I rebooted.

The PC allowed user to login and just after the desktop appeared it would hard reset.

After several hours of safe mode/msconfig fiddling uninstalling/reinstalling Zonealarm I have now come to the conclusion that 9.0.2011 avast will not happily co-exist with Zonealarm.

I am certain that Avast is causing the issue as it is the only thing that has changed. At the moment I have left Zonealarm uninstalled until this can be resolved.
Windows 8.1, i7 12GB RAM 500GB SSD, Avast Free

Same problem from a different direction. I had a Win7 system that I was able to get running with ZA 12.0.104 and avast  9.0.2011 but had to reinstall ZA and avast in that order to clear up a problem w/ZA (re)updating w/ every boot. When I went to my XP box, assumed the same problem would exist, so uninstalled avast 9.0.2007 and ZA 11.0.780 and put in latest ZA, then avast. To my surprise, when avast gets started, I get an almost immediate page_fault_in_nonpaged_area halt. The only way I could get the box running again was to use avast 9.0.2007 with the latest ZA. I thought it might be the integration of the grimefighter feature, but a custom install w/o it did not work either.

I had similar problems which I suspect was a conflict with ZA (this has happened in the past with Avast/ZA). Currently waiting to see if the latest version is fixed but it seems to be dated 17 Dec so I think not safe to install yet. If only you could find the relevant information - but apparently not.
Just ran the "cleaner"... what a **ck-up, huh?

I have the same problem as merckxist; but on win xp sp3 32 bit, updated to latest avast version 2014.9.0.2011 and already had ZA 12.0.104 installed - BSOD on boot.
Uninstalled ZA and all fine. I used to use Trend Micro before avast and ditched them as they would not play nice with ZA and other software I use (Spybot)....looks like avast is going the same way. Annoys me as I have paid for a 1 year license and if they dont fix this compatability issue with ZA looks like I wasted my money.

Hello, i'm new on this forum but i'm using avast for few years now with zonealarm and it's the first time i have trouble with an update of avast. Since i decide to update avast 2014.9.0.2008 to 2014.9.0.2011 everything was going fine. just after the start of avast i experiment a BSOD "Page_fault_in_nonpaged_area" 0X00000050  the only way to have my system back was to start my xp sp3 in safe mode uninstall avast with avastclean and restart . Do you have a sollution to fix that problem?

best regards and happy new year

Well... an antivirus is supposed to solve problems, avast create twice BSOD to me in the last 12 month. The solution I adopted is to unistall avast and install zonealarm free antivirus.
