I have the same problem: Update avast! = no internet. I hope I didn't further screw things up by uninstalling through the control panel. I found avast clear afterwards but it can't remove what it can't see I guess. So should I download and re-install avast, or can I still run avastclear and get the proper uninstall?
Thanks, Keith Bradley

Proper procedure to totally remove avast is to 1st uninstall through Control panel
followed by the use of the removal tool. (avastclear)
After you update avast!, are you allowing avast! access through your firewall ???
Maybe you need to clear out the rules in your firewall, reboot and allow avast! access through the firewall ???

That question is only for those that have installed avast! to something other than the default folder.
Unless you fall into that category, it isn't anything for you to worry about.

Hi Bob that uninstall worked. Now if I only knew what how to get back online I'd be happy. This program has thrown a wrench into my system.

I'm not sure about my firewall. I haven't done anything with it ever. I  did a lot of diagnosis with Microsoft and Bell over the phone and the final conclusion was to re-install windows. I tried a system reboots and lots of commands and nothing - nobody could get my computer to recognize my internet connection. I have 3 computers and it's the only one with avast installed.

3 hours on the phone with IT and I was about to give up. The last thing we tried was deleting the windows network drivers and restarting. There were no changes. Then as a last attempt I did another system reboot and lo and behold I'm back online.  The drivers re-installed and everything came back. Hell, even avast updated!

Sounds like the gremlin has finally left your computer. Enjoy. :)

I have the exact same symptoms as TFC above. Web pages that are simple load ok, others especially those with maps, either don't load or only load partially. Disabling the web shield allows most sites to load ok, but some still don't load properly.
[for a difficult site try http://www.dxinfocentre.com/tropo_nwe.html  - this used to work fine on my machines, but hopeless since mid April]
I have 2 PCs, a desktop and a laptop, both with W7 SP0, Firefox 28, and Avast. Both show the same symptoms.
I was already wondering if my Avast set of programs had got corrupted and whether to uninstall and start again.  I see there's a post earlier referring to a Windows hotfix, but it says it only applies to W7 SP1.  So should I try it anyway, or if not, what else?

I tried that site. It worked perfectly for me just now.

Hi TFC
I just found that it worked 95% if I cleared Firefox cache first - this is all tiresome.

Keithb. Please can you specify your OS version and platform? (Win 7 32 or 64 bit, XP etc..)

Thank you
