Have you experienced download problems with WebShield? Did it get any better after this fix.

I have the exact same symptoms as TFC above. Web pages that are simple load ok, others especially those with maps, either don't load or only load partially. Disabling the web shield allows most sites to load ok, but some still don't load properly. 
[for a difficult site try http://www.dxinfocentre.com/tropo_nwe.html  - this used to work fine on my machines, but hopeless since mid April]
I have 2 PCs, a desktop and a laptop, both with W7 SP0, Firefox 28, and Avast. Both show the same symptoms.
I was already wondering if my Avast set of programs had got corrupted and whether to uninstall and start again.  I see there's a post earlier referring to a Windows hotfix, but it says it only applies to W7 SP1.  So should I try it anyway, or if not, what else?

Although microsoft is constantly rolling out crappy software designs, it is preferable to install windows patches and service pack in order to avoid reliability problems.

Is there any fix yet for this yet besides turning off webshield? Looks like its the only thing working, the latest update (2014.9.0.2018) doesn't seems to fix it for me :\

Since Décember 14, I have problems with the Web Shield (see my posts on 15 Jan 14, 17 Jan 14, 20 Jan 14, on this topic).
Since  20 January till now, I work with Avast 2014.9.0.2012, but with the necessary change in WebShield.ini (UseStreamFilter=0).

After having waited for Avast team to work on the problem, I have installed the version 2014.9.0.2018 (Fresh install).
And all went back wrong (internet connection problems on video sites, ADSL rate test, https sites. Freeze of programs, ...).

So I have implemented the WebShield.ini change as before, but no results.

The dis-activation of AOS in Firefox gives no results.

The only way to solve the Web Shield problems is to dis-activate the Web Shield (in Parametres, Active protection).

So I begin to be despaired !
What do I have to do ?

Win 7 Home Premium SP1 French, Avast 2014.9.0.2018, Zone Alarm 9.2.105.000, Spybot 1.6.2.0

MPAc, TFC & any next affected user.

I can see that you are both using ZoneAlarm as your firewall. Is possible to disable (or better remove) the Zone Alarm and test again if the issue still persist? From my analysis of the TFC logs, interference between AVAST! and another traffic filtering product can be reason of reported problems...

Switching it off, may not be enough (as mentioned by Zdenek) if the low level drivers/traffic filtering may well still be active. So you may need to try uninstalling it as the next step and as a temporary measure use your Operating System firewall.

Thank you for pointing that out for me.

I really wanted to avoid that, but I gritted my teeth and uninstalled it anyway. That seemed to fix the problem with my 'problem' https page, but with Windows firewall I ran into problems with quite ordinary pages at first, although that cleared after a bit.

I have now reinstalled ZoneAlarm, and I do have the problem back again as we started. So, it would seem the problem is an interaction between Avast and Zone Alarm.

Why use a firewall that's not to cause conflicts. There are many others to choose from.
There's also nothing wrong with using the one that comes with Windows.

Removing ZA solves the problem. ZA has been identified numerous other times. Your choice but it seems quite obvious to me. :)

Removing Avast also solves the problem.

Please let us leave the resolution to the Avast technical team.
