My running processes
« on: June 25, 2005, 10:26:48 PM »
I have been fixing my friends computer, I got rid of 75 viruses, and 230 spyware on their computer.  Now everything runs a lot beter and faster, problem is the start-up is still extremly slow.  Which I am sure has to do with the amount of running processes: 79.  I don't know which running processes to delete and which ones to keep.

Here is a hijack logfile of the running processes.

C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccSetMgr.exe
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\SPBBC\SPBBCSvc.exe
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccEvtMgr.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exe
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccProxy.exe
C:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus\navapsvc.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\pctspk.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\CCPD-LC\symlcsvc.exe
C:\Program Files\iPod\bin\iPodService.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\HPZipm12.exe
C:\Program Files\Symantec\LiveUpdate\ALUNOTIFY.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe
C:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXE
C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe
C:\Program Files\MSN Apps\Updater\01.03.0000.1005\en-us\msnappau.exe
C:\Program Files\HP\hpcoretech\hpcmpmgr.exe
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccApp.exe
C:\Program Files\HP\HP Software Update\HPWuSchd2.exe
C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_02\bin\jusched.exe
C:\PROGRA~1\PESTPA~1\PPMemCheck.exe
C:\PROGRA~1\PESTPA~1\PPControl.exe
C:\PROGRA~1\PESTPA~1\CookiePatrol.exe
C:\Program Files\HP\hpcoretech\comp\hptskmgr.exe
C:\Program Files\hp\Digital Imaging\bin\hpqtra08.exe
C:\Program Files\HP\Digital Imaging\bin\hpqgalry.exe
C:\Program Files\MSN Messenger\msnmsgr.exe
C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe
C:\Documents and Settings\George  Archibald\Desktop\HijackThis.exe
C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe.

Now the logifle only shows 38, although when I click ctrl-alt-delete it says there are 79, not sure where I find those others.

Any help would be great

Edit: All of them are listed under ctrl-alt-delete just not on logfile.

I have been fixing my friends computer, I got rid of 75 viruses, and 230 spyware on their computer.

That is a lot of viruses and spyware.

I think it would be best to backup any important files, then format the hard drive and re-install windows.

1. This is an incomplete hijack log and some of the important information is missing, such as the 02 BHO stuff and any run command stuff, etc. etc. (see 3 below).

2. I see you friend isn't running avast but NAV, perhaps now would time to convert to avast ;D

3. Paste a complete log into this link for an on-line analysis - HiJackThis Log file - On-line Analysis
