What is Avast doing on my network (high traffic)?

Seeing loads of in/out traffic from Avast. What could be causing it?
Edit: Those IP addresses appear to be associated with my Usenet Service Provider's (usenetserver.com) servers. Why is avast concerned with this? It's slowing my Usenet downloads significantly.

Disable nntp (news) scanning in the MailShield, if you don't want it to be scanned while downloading.
