Re: Windows 8.1 Problem with Printer
« Reply #30 on: January 12, 2014, 04:27:33 PM »
I have a Dell V515 all in one printer.  It will print and the fax machine works, also the memory card which I use to post picture taken with my Digital Camera works but it won't scan.  I tried reinstalling it yesterday evening but when I put the disk in I got an error message saying the printer isn't compatible with the current OS.  Everything worked just fine when I was using Windows 7 and I don't understand why it's not compatible with Windows 8.1.

Any advice would be appreciated.
Windows 8.1 probably requires a different driver. Use the free version of the program listed here:
http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=9671.msg1048110#msg1048110 to check for a driver update.
When you install the program, refuse the add-ons and on the last screen uncheck the Tuneup utility.

Well if the model number is correct and the download file version is newer than what you have then it should be fine to download and install, it is the Dell support site after all :)

Is your computer 64 bit ? if not here is the 32bit driver http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/04/DriverDetails/Product/dell-v515w?driverId=KPT6D&osCode=W832&fileId=3098268105&languageCode=EN&categoryId=DD

Try that newer driver first and if it doesn't work, you could try your driver disk and try installing in compatibility mode for Windows 7 or maybe even Vista.

@bob3160

I might try that but I'm almost afraid to because I would mess something up.

When I click on my printer icon it show that my software needs to be updated and takes me to the Dell website but I can't find anything about a software update.

I don't understand why the scan function is the only thing that doesn't work.
@-midnight,
I can only give you the advice. I can't make you follow it. :)
If you didn't want advice, you shouldn't have asked the question in the first place.....  :(

@craigb,

I installed the driver but it didn't help.

@bob1360,

I installed the program and it messed up my computer so had to do a system restore.
.

Also, after doing the restore, I opened Firefox and it showed the home page snap.do.  I had to download and run AdwCleaner to get rid of snap.do and a lot other crapware.

I very much dislike Windows 8.1 so think I'm going to have my neighbor come hook up my Windows 7.

BTW........I did disable all of the shields until restart.
@ -Midnight,
For your information, Sap.do didn't come from the program I recommended.
Why in the world would you disable all your shields to install this or any other program ???
The safest thing I can do for you from now on is to not reply in your posts. You seem to have a problem following
even the simplest instructions.
Hope your neighbor can help you apparently remote help isn't working for you.  :(

I didn't say that Snap. do came from the program you recommended.  I know I'm not all that tech savvy but I don't " have a problem following even the simplest instructions."

I disabled the shields before starting system restore.  I would never disable the shields to install any program.

Getting ready to order a new printer that will be compatible with Windows 8.1.
