Can't access router
« on: December 28, 2013, 09:03:21 PM »
Hello.
I recently updated to avast 2014, and now I am unable to access my router's configuration page at 10.0.0.xx.
I have tried excluding the address both as a URL and as a script in "script exclusions".
Where do I go from here?

Thank you for your swift response. I am, however, still having the same problem.
Any other suggestions?

There have been prior threads posted about issues with router web page access. More information would be helpful...

What operating system are you using?

What Avast product are you using?

Are you using a wireless router?

What web browser are you using?

Are you getting any error messages?

I'm using the free version of avast.
Router is wireless, but I'm connected to it by ethernet.
Using Firefox, but the same thing happens with other browsers.
No error messages on Firefox, just what appears to be a half loaded version of the page.

Have you tried disabling the Avast AOS extension in Firefox?.

The aos thing was disable by firefox by default. It has never been on.

As a test with Firefox, click on Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled and see if it will work.

There may be a conflict with an Add-on.

That shouldn't be.
As asked previously, how about some specifics.

Exactly what version of avast - the complete number from the Avast UI->Help->About Avast (the current version with or without emupdate changes should show as 2014.9.0.2011)

Exactly what version of Firefox - the complete number from Help->About Firefox

What operating system XP/Vista/Win 7/Win 8 etc and is it 32 or 64 bit?

Seems kind of strange that this is so difficult to remedy.
Avast: 2014.9.0.2011
Firefox: 26 I don't really find firefox version number to be relevant, seeing as it happens in all browsers.
Operating system is windows 7 64 bit.
Thanks for your help so far, by the way.

Avast: 2014.9.0.2011
Firefox: 26
Operating system is windows 7 64 bit.

Thanks for that.
I am using 2014.9.0.2011 Free version
Firefox 25.0.1  (I don't like what has happened to the download manager in 26)
Operating system windows 7 64 bit.
More specifically, whilst AOS did work with Firefox, and IE, I don't Avast AOS installed for either. I have all three shields installed.
I don't have intelligent stream scanning enabled in the Web shield, but I do have scan for unwanted PUPS enabled.
My router is a wireless router, but connected to my desktop via ethernet.

So with a system notionally quite similar to yours, I have no problems accessing my router settings via Firefox.

Question, are you by any chance using a Zone Alarm firewall?.
I have a friend experiencing a similar problem with some web pages not fully showing and others that don't access at all. They all work OK if he uses another AV with his ZA firewall, or with Avast if he removes the Zone Alarm firewall. The latest fixes to the web shield didn't resolve the issue, nor did uninstalls, cleanouts, reinstalls.

He has reverted back to Avast 2014.9.0.2008 and that is working OK with Zone Alarm.

I didn't have any firewalls save for the standard windows one.
I installed Comodo firewall, but the problem persists.
I can live with it, as I just have to disable the shield for the short time I need to access the router.
I'm hoping the avast team will get on this.

Still having the same problem, just so the avast team knows.

I doubt that Avast will be following the forum posts closely, particularly over the holiday period.

There is one more thing you could try, a change to the webshield .ini file as suggested by Avast's Lukor.

You can add the following two lines into the webshield.in file

[General]
UseStreamFilter=0

The webshield.ini file is found at C:\ProgramData\AVAST Software\Avast\webshield.ini
You can make the edit using Windows note pad, however note that you must run notepad as an administrator, and you also need to first disable the avast self defence module  (Avast GUI->Settings->Troubleshooting. Untick "Enable avast! self-defense module"

After adding the above two lines to webshield.ini and saving the file, re-enable the avast self defense module and then reboot.
This change will change the web shield back to the previous proxy based shield.

Refer Lukor's post at http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=143211.msg1042628#msg1042628

That actually fixed it, thanks a lot!
My only concern is if this makes my computer less secure somehow, I do have comodo running alongside avast though.
