@ AdrianH,
Since I've dealt with customers all of my life, I do know that it's impossible to satisfy all of them.
Regardless of how hard you try. What makes one person happy, is also what makes another person sad or angry.
You can always only try to do your best and, if you make a mistake, admit it and move on and try to do it better the next time.

129260 has stated, "I cannot recommend Avast!"

Knowledgeable users say / show that all his various complaints actually can be alleviated.

But that doesn't change the fact that not everyone who would benefit from using Avast! has the wherewithal to uncheck the (non-obvious) boxes that make all the nagging stop, or uninstall/clean/reinstall to make it actually work right when its updater corrupts things (which to my knowledge has happened only once).

Perhaps the takeaway message is that Avast! is starting to drift a little past the point where it's good for the general public right out of the box.

A.  That seems like a kind of useless comment, Asyn.  Can we not try and learn from his point of view regardless?

B.  His last post was all the way back on...  Yesterday.  How do you know that he might not duck back in today and respond?

Edit:  Never mind.  I think I see from the odd appearance of the username that he's been removed/banned/deleted.  I missed that; thanks for pointing it out.

A. Sure, learn from him, if you wish.
B. Because he asked for deletion of his forum account.

...SNIP...
2) What nags? avast has every reason to expect a profit. After all the employees want to get paid for their efforts.
...SNIP...
The one thing that really stands out is that you never complained about the protection.
...SNIP...

Avast should make a profit. But not by forcefeeding us stuff that we don't want... stuff that we go out of our way to avoid in fact.
People don't complain about the protection because it's very good. Maybe Avast should just concentrate on monetizing the protection by only allowing 6 months free instead of the ads and other junk.

The ads bug has been known for a while now and is gradually beginning to get fixed. It's actually a VPS update which displays the ad notification instead.

You can disable the VPS update notifications and that should stop the ads.

Again, it may be annoying but it does not affect the functionality of the program to protect against malware.
