After you get it fixed you can surely get good advice on this forum on how to configure Avast to reach it's full protection potential.
As Pondus explained the PUP (Potentialy Unwanted Programs) default configuration is set to "off" when Avast is installed. Turn it on and furthermore tell Avast how you want it to react to Viruses/ PUPs and any suspicious behaviour. In the Shield settings one can Fix auto/ Repair/ Delete, etc......(General>Active Protection>File System Shield/ Mail Shield/ Web Shield/Actions & Options).

I would be more than happy to turn on scan for PUPs if I knew how to do it.

You can also turn on PUP scanning for scheduled and manual scans within the scan settings.

Hi -midnight,

This snapdo may not even be scanned as an undesirable or PUP by avast! as it is no malware in a strict sense(and cannot be classified as such without legal problems), only the special anti-adware programs/tools pur sang give a possibility to relieve your computer of it. Some of these programs like snap are bordering on being adware, so if you decide to classify the tool as undesirable crap, they could even decide to  take you to court.
Again and I now repeat this for the third time. Why not ask essexboy here to help you get it off of your computer? The man is a qualified removal expert  and he could tell you how to as you apparently do not know how to perform this yourself. I told you so in the first place, Pondus told you so, craigb told you so. Why didn't you do that then? Why are you always that stubborn?  :D

Hi polonus,

I'm not being stubborn.  I would never be able to figure out how to use the tools, or whatever they're called, that essexboy wants one to run to get rid of malware.   :-[

Howdy -midnight,

Hold on, dear lady, we can spell this out for ye in a "1+1 = 2- easy" manner.
You just do not realize that we can even give instructions for dummies  ;D
He, come on now, you would know how to do this.
I am quite sure about this fact.
Feel like mighty -midnight and just download adwcleaner. Read: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/
Now give that program a twirl as instructed there - click, click, OK.
By using AdwCleaner you can easily remove many of these types of programs for a better user experience on your computer
and while browsing the web.
After you have done so, report back to base and post the logs of that proggie as an attachment.
Anyone can do this, so also our user, -midnight! You just needed the additional friendly word to convince you.

I downloaded it and right now it's showing a generic search in progress but I can't see it scanning anything.

Be patient and let the program do it's  full extended run - let it run out completely, - this may take some time. Do not interrupt.

Yeah.

Some people think that it is junkware.

But you can reinstall that later.
