Blue Screen of Death in Windows 8.1
« on: January 08, 2014, 12:13:02 AM »
Today I got some mods for a game called Kerbal Space Program I scanned them and checked them with !Avast and then decided to run the game in sandbox mode (Going into the steam folder and right clicking the program) The entire game was running odd (Lag, No sound, things obviously not loading) then when I quit the game (To scan the cache of the sandbox) my computer bluescreens. It restarts without a hitch and I got (And searched) the error KERNAL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/hardware/jj569891(v=vs.85).aspx) I'm guessing this was my fault.

EDIT: Upon further research these two error's are what I found from the bluescreen log. A call to RtlQueryRegistryValues was made specifying RTL_QUERY_REGISTRY_DIRECT without RTL_QUERY_REGISTRY_TYPECHECK, and the target value was not in a trusted system hive, and A stack-based buffer has been overrun (legacy /GS violation).

Fox.

@YelloFox,
If you check the rest of this forum, you'll notice that there appear some problems (conflicts) between avast! and Steam.
I have no clue if your problem is related to that conflict or the game itself.
