[Solved]Help! Webshield is not working!
« on: January 13, 2014, 03:25:47 AM »
I already did a clean reinstall of avast, but still avast's webshield can't detect and block eicar's http files.
I have Kaspersky Internet Security before. I uninstalled it and ran its uninstall utility twice before going to avast.
I have Zemana Antilogger before. I uninstalled it because it interfered with avast's deepscreen.

I have avast free; windows xp pro 32-bit. I have comodo firewall installed. I'll uninstall it later to see if it solves the problem. I primarily use Chrome for browsing. No firefox installed.

Any steps I should take?

i tried, but no change...

Can it be possible that a proxy application is blocking avast's webshield? I use a proxy app to access the internet. I can't uninstall the proxy app because without it I can't access the internet and thus I can't test the webshield.

Why are you using a proxy application?
Why not just setting the proxy server in the network settings?
What application are you using?

i use a proxy app to access the internet.
It's Cproxy.

btw, i already uninstalled all my security softwares like comodo firewall, zemana antilogger, cryptoprevent, and sandboxie, except Hitman Pro. But, still avast's webshield can't detect eicar's http files. :(

Without uninstalling Cproxy, in the p.o.v. of avast technical team, is avast not compatible with any proxy apps?

Kaspersky and Bitdefender (my previous AV softwares) all worked even when I'm behind a proxy app.

You haven't answered my first two questions :(

Quote
CPROXY lowers the amount of data transferred through your connection to the Internet by an average of 50%. Because of this, your usage of CPROXY enables you to: speed up the access to the Internet => saving your time and the time you pay for in case you need to access the Internet through a modem. reduce the volume of transferred data => saving the money you pay for transferred data in case you access the Internet through GPRS, this is through a hardwired line with a calculated volume of data. be anonymous => nobody will be able to find out your real IP address. protect your privacy => neither your employer nor ISP will have no possibility to check what web sites you browse.
Speed up? Not possible. You get what you pay for. If you pay for e.g. a 5mb downline, 5mb is the maximum speed that you can get.
In case you need to access the internet through a modem? Ahum, that is the only way to access the internet. Meaning no modem = no internet.
Anonymous? Forget it, there is always a trace. Hence why authorities are able to find e.g. people who are spreading/downloading e.d. childporn.
Reducing the data send? No way. Either you send the data or you don't.

i answered the first and the third questions... :)
I use CProxy to access the internet, meaning that I won't have internet access if I don't use CProxy. That's why I need to use this app to have an internet access.
I don't understand the 2nd question. So, please forgive me. :D

Please tell me if avast is incompatible with CProxy. The answer to that question is just what I wanted for now. If it's compatible, then there's some kind of conflict with other softwares in my computer, whether installed or uninstalled softwares. If it's incompatible, then I'll have to leave avast, which I will be very very sad because I love avast.

btw, thank you for trying to help me... :D

Yehey!
Finally, I got it to work!

There's really no incompatibility between avast and cproxy. What I did was uncheck the "Ignore local communication" in the Web under the Redirect Settings in Troubleshooting. And now it's working! avast now detects and blocks all eicar's http files! I'm very happy!
I'm glad I'll stay with avast. Long live avast! :D

Thanks Eddy and Pondus for trying to help me.
