Avast Services are automatically Turned off
« on: January 14, 2014, 09:25:47 AM »
I'm using free version of avast 2014. I Installed it 7 days back and all of sudden when I rebooted my machine today the services are turned off.

There's a red cross on notification icon, program says You are Unprotected
Program version is = 2014.9.0.2011, Virus definition version = well it says "UNKNOWN" (But i'm positive that i've updated this morning)
I cannot update it or run a scan. It say "There's no endpoints available in endpoint mapper"

Any suggestions?

I'm on win8.1

Try a repair.
Control panel > software > avast > add/remove > repair

Did you enter the key for the free version?
Do you (or did you) have any other security software installed?

They should work fine together.
Let's try this:
1. Download Avastclear, Rejzors uninstall tool and the appropriate Avast program edition

Note : You need to be ONLINE during the install (sometimes online installer works whereas offline doesn't)

Avastclear : http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avastclear.exe
Rejzors Uninstall tool: http://rejzor.wordpress.com/avast-cleanup-tool/

2. Uninstall Avast by control panel  [If you don't have Avast in control Panel go to #4]
3. Uninstall in safe mode using Avastclear.
4. Run Rejzors Uninstall Utility in Normal Mode (removes traces avastclear doesn't) - reboot.
5. Install the version you downloaded.
6. Reboot.

Disable the "tea timer" in SpyBot S&D.
The tea timer can and will create a conflict with avast.

To be honest, get rid of SpyBot and use MalwareBytes instead.

edit: Read this concerning SpyBot.

Use malwarebytes for periodic scans, not real-time.
You may want to schedule e.g. a scan once a week.

Why not realtime ??? works great alongside avast.

+1
I run Malwarebytes Pro with realtime options active. No problems at all with Avast, and I have all 3 shields active in that, but I don't have Avast's Browser addons/extension installed.  :)

It's a one time fee for MBAM Pro. Just buy it before MBAM v2.0 is released or else it will be an annual fee.

@Eddy, Para-Noid

It didn't go well guys. Uninstalled avast completely and reinstalled. After one day it again turns itself off.
Last time when this happened I switched back to version 8.x and it works fine. Gonna go back to older version. I wonder what's the issue :-\
Thanks Anyway ;D

The current BETA (9.0.2012) fixes the issue... should be released soon when ready.

You can try BETA here (it's stable imo) : http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=144768.0
