« on: January 19, 2014, 08:27:54 AM »

Hi All,

Avast found win32:VBCrypt-CSL and many other malware on my laptop.

File C:\users\name\appdate\Local\low\televisionfanaticEI\Installr\Cache\0003477A.exe>64setup.exe|>[Embedded - R#T8DYN.DLL7] is infected with win32:PUP-gen [PUP]

" " [R#T8HTML.DLL] ... win32:Malware-geb

" " win32:mywebsearch-AB [PUP]
" " win32:mywebsearch-AD [PUP]

Followed your instructions Malwarebytes.  Performed a quick scan and it removed over 500 entries.  Also, ran OTL by Oldtimer as per instructions.  Please see all logs attached.

What is next in order to clean-up this mess.  Your help would be appreciated.

Thanks, k

PUP = not virus / Possible Unwanted Program ......
usually browser crap you get when downloading freeware ... toolbars / browser hijackers / start page / search engine redirects / Adware .....

Your malwarebytes log say NO ACTION TAKEN
update malwarebytes, run new quick scan, make sure evrything detected is marked for removal and click the  remove selected  button

Morning Pondus and Essexboy,

Many thanks for all your expert advice and help.

This is my old computer (laptop) which I use for Skype and occasionally as a portable.  Looks like the kids were messing about during the holidays. :( :o

I've followed all of your instructions: Re-ran OTL Custom Scan/Fixes; OTL Quick Scan; AdwCleaner (Scan & Clean); and Junkware Removal Tool.   See logs attached.

Cheers, k

In that case methinks I will send you on your merry way :)

Subject to no further problems   :)

I will remove my tools now and give some recommendations, but, I would like you to run for 24 hours or so and come back if you have any problems

Now the best part of the day ----- Your log now appears clean

A good workman always cleans up after himself so..The following will implement some cleanup procedures as well as reset  System Restore points:

Run AdwCleaner and select uninstall

Delete JRT from the desktop

Run OTL and hit the cleanup button.  It will remove all the programmes we have used plus itself.

Clear Restore Points

Go Start > All Programmes > Accessories > System tools
Right click Disc Cleanup and select run as administrator
When it pops up at the first prompt select OK after it has done some calculations the tabs will appear
Select More Options tab
Press Sytem Restore and Shadow Copies Cleanup button

Now that you are clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programmes:

CryptoPrevent install this programme to lock down and prevent crypto ransome ware

Malwarebytes.

Update and run weekly to keep your system clean

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system and to keep them updated.

To learn more about how to protect yourself while on the internet read our little guide  How did I get infected in the first place ?Keep safe

Hi Essexboy,

I don't believe this little laptop has been so clean.  I've followed all of your instructions to remove the previous programmes.  I also have installed the Cryto as well as Malwarebytes from earlier.

Your advice is brilliant!  Many thanks again for all the super help.

Cheers, k :)
