Odd extension issue?
« on: January 21, 2014, 09:43:06 PM »
I don't know how to give logs for this one, sorry.
I was surfing the internet, as usual, and suddenly all my pages refused to load. Down in the status, I had "Waiting for avast! Online Security". Disabling and re-enabling the extension seemed to fix the issue. With it re-enabled, however, pages are loading extremely slow. Any ideas?

Upgrade to v2014.9.0.2011...

Download and save the avast uninstaller tool.
Download and save your choice...
Free
Pro
Avast Internet Security
Premier
Run uninstaller from above. You will be directed to reboot into safe mode...click "yes".
Reboot.
Install choice from above.
Reboot and either register or insert license. It won't hurt to reboot again.

So my only option is to do a complete reinstall? For something that's connected but, near as I can tell, independent of my AV?
EDIT: Just completely locked up my browser again. Had to disable it again.

The reason why you have to do a clean install is most likely because your current install is corrupt.

Not only that but v6.0 is old technology.
Right at three years old.

If you want you could give the beta a go.

edit: Chrome is also outdated.

Elaborate...

If you don't reboot, you're essentially running the version you were on BEFORE you updated.

Windows can't update programs while they are running and so can't programs.

Driver changes require reboots and so do many .dll file extensions when they are registered in certain circumstances.

Uh...v2014.9.0.2001 was a beta version.
The new beta is more stable than v2014.9.0.2011  See http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=144768.msg1049924#msg1049924

@ Alikhan Well put! To expand each version v6.0, v7.0 v8.0 and now v2014 use different registry values.
Also by rebooting you ensure the integrity of the install.

Weird. That program update was just done earlier today through the UI?
EDIT: I've clean installed the beta and re-enabled the extension. We'll see how it goes.

EDIT: I've clean installed the beta and re-enabled the extension. We'll see how it goes.

There are issues with the avast! online security (AOS) add-on at the moment causing crashes and slow web browsing in browsers.

It is not compatible with IE11 in Enhanced Protected Mode.

My advice would be to disable AOS until another program update [hopefully] fixes the issue.

The reason why we were recommending you the clean install was due to the version of your signature which was a far outdated program version to which updating to v9 (2014) could have caused several problems.
