Reboot and check if the problem is solved.
If not, try a repair of avast through control panel > software > avast > add/remove > choose repair > reboot

So now you are gonna damage your daughters computer ;D

Check if your license is still valid.
You may wish to get a new license (if you are using the free version) and try to enter that.
If your license is still valid try this:

1. Download Avastclear, Rejzors uninstall tool and the appropriate Avast program edition

Note : You need to be ONLINE during the install (sometimes online installer works whereas offline doesn't)

http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_free_antivirus_setup_online.exe
http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_pro_antivirus_setup_online.exe
http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_internet_security_setup_online.exe
http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_premier_antivirus_setup_online.exe

Avastclear : http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avastclear.exe
Rejzors Uninstall tool: http://rejzor.wordpress.com/avast-cleanup-tool/

2. Uninstall Avast by control panel  [If you don't have Avast in control Panel go to #4]
3. Uninstall in safe mode using Avastclear.
4. Run Rejzors Uninstall Utility in Normal Mode (removes traces avastclear doesn't) - reboot.
5. Install the version you downloaded.
6. Reboot.

Having more trouble with crashing ,not loading ,is it possible that I've got a virus ?
(btwThis seems to be a 'free' forum but I did pay & I've still got awhile yet I think.)
I had a virus despite having Avast some months back.
Windows wont load ,catalyst control center stopped working ,oh heck think it needs computer hospital :0)
When it's up & running as it is now ,it's brilliant.
Just dont understand it,

We will take a quick look first :)

Download OTL  to your Desktop
Secondary link
  • Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.

  • Select All Users
  • Select LOP and Purity
  • Under the Custom Scan box paste this in
netsvcs
BASESERVICES
%SYSTEMDRIVE%\*.exe
c:\program files (x86)\Google\Desktop
c:\program files\Google\Desktop
dir "%systemdrive%\*" /S /A:L /C
/md5start
rpcss.dll
/md5stop
CREATERESTOREPOINT

  • Click the Run Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.
    • When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL.
    • Attach  both logs

Hiya , thanks for trying but once I reboot it takes me an hour or more to get online.
Would a 'performance' virus do all this again? That was the virus removed last time ,I've been writing down every nasty that comes up ,
i.e.connectivity probs ,Catalyst control center stopped working, Windows stopped working & more .But as now it's working perfectly ,but not for long I'm thinking.

btw ,hubby's an 'Essex boy' from Southend :)

Ah I am an Essex boy from Romford :)

With the initial OTL scan there is no need for a reboot, it will scan and then produce a log for me to look at
