www.wetransfer.com
« on: January 26, 2014, 09:28:17 AM »
Since the last update of avast (free edition) I can not use www.wetransfer.com anymore to upload or download files.

Wetransfer starts uploading, gives the remark that only 1 minute is left to finish and that 5MB is uploaded.

The only way to use www.wetransfer.com is to close avast.
Other users (my correspondents) have the same problem.

Is there a way to keep use www.wetransfer.com without every time, finish avast?
With other virusscanners I do not have that problem.

Please help!

Make the links not clickable.

With other virus scanners?
NEVER have multiple malware scanners running on the system in real time!
They can conflict preventing malware from being detected.

wetransfer is also violating the "cookie" laws in The Netherlands and other European countries.

I uninstalled Avast and replaced it with another virusscanner. I know you can not use 2 or more virusscanners at the same time without getting into troubles.
But I want to continue working with avast as I used Avast for more than a couple of years now, without problems untill now.

That site won't transfer even a tiny text file for me , no matter what system/security I use.

Why use it anyway?

If you are moving a lot of files the bandwidth use is going to be high.

Compress the files and simply email them, or use one ( or more) of the free cloud storage services and pass the link to your contacts.

Has to be much easier and safer.

Microsoft have SkyDrive, Google, Amazon and many others are free to use.

I use it to transfer my photo's and these are sometimes huge files.

I used it for more than a couple years now, without any difficulties. Untill the last update from Avast.

The thing is, that if I disable Avast, wetransfer is working smoothly as before.

As there seems no workable solution because of the EU cookie legislation which Avast seems to use as a reason, I have to switch to another virusscanner.

avast won't be interested in the Euro cookie law.

I tried to send a small text file from a Linux desktop, it failed.

For photographs why not store them on Flickr or PhotoBucket ?

I know there are alternatives enough for wetransfer.
But using flickr, dropbox, ... gives me no solution for the problem between wetransfer and Avast.
Wetransfer is commonly used between photographers and models, agencies, ...
I not going to change a way of working, just because 1 player (Avast) is not coöperative. So I change that 1 player instead as there comes no solution.

I would suggest that your problems may have been the website and not avast.

Yesterday night I tried the site again, and had no problem sharing 64 large images.
They loaded and transferred very quickly, whereas before the upload took several minutes, then failed, and that also happened with a Linux box.

No, this was a bug in avast! 9.0.2011.

It was fixed with the latest program update. (9.0.2013)

The OP had 9.0.2103.   I checked using the same version, it failed.   Neither of us were using 9.0.2011 .Later that day the site worked again.

I think the problem was indeed Avast.

I have downloaded the newest version as suggested. And everything works fine again!

Thanks Avast, for fixing problems! :)
