/avast/setup/new/ folder
« on: January 31, 2014, 10:57:51 AM »
Hi,

i updated avast free to 9.0.2013 via gui yesterday. Now there is this "new" folder in the avast setup folder with files like instup.exe etc.  I have never seen these files although i always updated avast via gui. So are these files remains of the update process which can be deleted or are these necessary.

Thanks!

That 'new' sub-folder is/was probably used during the update (it is not in my setup folder) and may well be removed by avast housekeeping in due course. Have you rebooted since the update, if not you should ?

The instup.exe is the new update/installation file, replaces the old avast.setup file used during auto updates, etc..

I have rebooted several times, maybe it will removed after several more :)

I don't think it is crucial so waiting won't hurt.

I installed 9.0.2013 over the top of the beta build (9.0.2012) I was testing, not through the GUI, so that may be the reason for the difference.

Thanks David.
I tested it on another rig, installed 9.0.2012 and right after i started the update process via gui this folder was created. Reboots on this machine also dont remove it. But whatever :)

Try downloading the set-up file "then" install over the top.
IOW don't update the program through the GUI.
