Rejecting installation of Pro
« on: February 18, 2014, 05:38:33 PM »
system Windows Vista Home Basic Service Pack 1

Attempts to install Pro virus on three different browsers: Mozilla, Chrome and Windows Explorer, repeatedly receiving error message:

The Stub cannot run installer/updater Executive program files [..]

Can anyone advise how I can possibly bypass this problem?

Thanks.

Try downloading the full installer from here: http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_pro_antivirus_setup.exe

have you uninstalled your previous used AV before installing avast?

General: Uninstalling a third-party antivirus software.   http://www.avast.com/faq.php?article=AVKB11

hi.  Thanks.  I appreciate your help and quick replies.

I did both options and still getting the same error message.

I have been researching the error you mention but have yet to find anything useful. Are there any other problems with your computer? Is it running OK? Have you had any malware on it recently?

Have you tried running the installation file as an administrator? Right click on the downloaded file and select, Run as administrator.

I just thought of two more things you could try.

1. Download and install the free version of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and attach the log file on your next post. This will check to see if you are able to install MBAM and check to see if MBAM detects any malware.

2. Run System File Checker to repair corrupt or missing system files.
