Windows 7 won't boot - Please help! re: aswRvrt.sys BSOD
« on: February 28, 2014, 12:59:49 AM »
I am having the same problem as the guy in this thread: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=140353.0

Whenever I try to boot the machine normal it goes BSOD. When I try safemode, it BSOD after it says the driver aswRvrt.sys.

I am running windows 7 64 bit.

I already ran FRST and attached the output. Help would be appreciated :(

Ugh. Ran a fixlist to try to remove avast (based on another post) but that didn't seem to help.

This is the new FRST log after the remove.

It is not recommended that you use someone elses' fix as it can cause damage

Download the attached fixlist.txt to the same location as FRST
Run FRST and press fix
On completion try a reboot

Essexboy, why would a registry restore (your Fixlist) work and not a restore point ?

Restore points work only on XP for Vista and later lastregback is needed.  This is due to the architecture of VSS

Are you talking specifically for this aswRvrt.sys issue or in general ?
I ask only because I thought System Restore in all Windows.....XP, Vista, 7, 8 put the registry back to previous restore point too ?
Not to go too far from the subject of the thread but what does a F8 Known Good Last Point do ?

Hopefully copystart will post his results of FRST fix effort.

This is a general issue, there are few tools that can force a system restore in Vista and better as they use VSS

Last known good is just the last registry backup, whereas FRST selects the last reg backup that worked
