Does aswMBR removes other malware besides rootkits?
« on: February 07, 2014, 12:46:59 PM »
Hello,

does aswMBR removes other malware besides rootkits?

Does it also detects and remove other kind of malware that is detected by Avast antivirus?

Thanks!

The question is because of the message in the update prompt:

"This application can use the Avast! Free Antivirus for scanning.
It is recommended to download it for better detection results.

Would you like to download the latest Avast! virus definitions?"

Thanks

It clearly says:
aswMBR is the rootkit scanner that scans for TDL4/3, MBRoot (Sinowal), Whistler and other rootkits.

This is a standalone cleaning tool, not a full-featured antivirus program.

The update prompt says:

"This application can use the Avast! Free Antivirus for scanning.
It is recommended to download it for better detection results.

Would you like to download the latest Avast! virus definitions?"

Therefore it could eventually use all Avast! virus definitions instead of selectively download only the ones related to rootkits.

From your answer i can deduce that the update prompt means that aswMBR will only download the latest Avast! virus definitions related to rootkits, and that will only detect rootkits?

I know that is a standalone cleaning tool, not a full-featured antivirus program.

Thanks
