Yahoo Messenger Beta
« on: June 26, 2005, 11:51:59 PM »
A friend and I just downloaded the Beta version of Yahoo Messenger

We were talking on the the mic  and she gets messages from Avast.  I did not get any.  We tried to compare settings, but didn't see any differences...that we noticed.

Here are three messages that she got.

Network Shield Blocked "DCOM Exploit" attack 67.4.2.139:135/tcp

                                                                        67.4.88.202:135/tcp

                                                                        67.4.59.152:135/tcp

The Messenger worked OK (well not that good :()
What is advice to give my friend.
Thank you.

These have no connection with Yahoo Messenger at all these are "attacks" from computers infected by the Blaster worm.

The suggestion is:
1) search the forum for DCOM exploit.
2) install firewall or switch of Microsoft Networking
3) turn of the message in Network Shield setup or ignore it

After getting your reply and thinking about it, I guess it seemed like a silly question.......as Avast was just doing its job.
Neither my friend nor I really have much understanding of the inner workings of Avast and really did not even know how to ask a question about it or what to search.

Some of us have never ever seen a message with warnings etc from Avast although we have been using over a year.  When we get our first one, it is a bit unsettling.

I hope that means that perhaps we aren't so ignorant after all.  We try to watch where we step.  :)

Thanks

It absolutely ok to ask here. My response was brief because these messages have been already discussed here many times a few months ago, when Network Shield was introduced.

Hopefully you will find all the information you need in some of these threads:

:) I have Yahoo Instant Messenger and do NOT plan on being
a guinea pig Beta "tester"; I waited months to install
Microsoft Antispyware Beta, but only because I did not hear
    of any problems.
