win 7/64 aswvmm.sys corrupt on boot

I have a multi-boot system xp:vista:7/64.  Just completed an Avast program update, and am now in a boot loop showing the aswvmm.sys corrupt error. Not sure how I can get round this if I can't get into win 7/64 (although I can get into the XP:Vista on the same machine).

Is it possible I can get/download the right file and load onto the windows/system32/ folder ? If so where?

I have read some posts about FRST/fixit, but not sure where you get it from, or how you would run it on a multi-boot system?

PS did a full scan 12 hours ago with no issues.

Advice please - seams to be a not uncommon problem on Avast.

Dual booting XP and Vista doesn't make any sense at all.

See if a repair of avast solves the problem.

Eddy, he cna't boot into Win 7 where the issue is.

Eddy:  The reason for multi-boot system is so that I can work on different systems that we have - I can assure you it isn't for pleasure!

Michael:  thanks for showing me where to find the info on FRST etc - I couldn't find it myself.

In the end, I found that instead of warm restarts, a cold restart + F8 gave me options, so going back to last good config, and subsequent uninstall of Avast sorted it for me.  Avast wouldn't uninstall normally so had to use the removal tool to get rid.  The key was a cold restart which I should have thought about earlier.
