Yes, you're right (I mean, this is what is written on help files). Maybe Vlk could confirm this... Although, I think that except scanning CAB files, the others are just PRO version features.

Not so sure about scanning the cabs, I tought I saw it somewhere in this forum, but for other two, I asure you, those features are present and working in home version of Avast! 4.1.280. I tested them!

And yes, it does scan inside the cab archives. Just select archives and set scanning level to torough. Once the scanning is finished you can preform some action on scanning result(s)!

True, since Home version cannot store scan results, you cannot perform action(s) on them, but you can always perform an action on the last scan result! As for sending an email when infected file is found, don't beleive anything, try it and you'll see!

Right, I think what the help writer wanted to emphasise is the lack of scanning tasks in the Home Ed., ie. per-scan settings. Maybe these table rows on that help page should be rephrased a bit (can you take care of it, Igor? thanks).

The differences between Home and Pro are sutble.
As you can see, Home does not provide Script protection whereas Pro does.

so do you really think the difference is so subtle??
i think that the script blocker is an important lack in the home version  :'(

AnalogX Script Defender will intercept any request to execute the most common scripting types used in virus attacks, such as Visual Basic Scripting (.VBS), Java Script (.JS), etc and can even be configured to intercept new script extensions as needed! It's very simple to use and helps to ensure that you do not inadvertently run a script no matter what email program you use, or even if you get it via another method.

In home version you could add this line:

WS?,VBS,VBE,JS,JSE,HTA,WSF,WSH,SHS,SHB

at Scanner (Advanced) section of Resident task options...

Although it is not the same: Script Blocker (as Script Defender) will deny running of the script. The line above says to the Resident task to 'scan' the script file.

If you need more protection, think about the avast! Pro version

You may even add HTM* to the list of extensions... but still, it will not emulate the behavior of the Script Blocker. The provider (Standard Shield in this case) will scan the files when loaded from disk - however, if the infected files will be loaded and executed directly from web, they will not be scanned - that's what the Script Blocker is for.

in fact i use antivir and i wanted to know if i should better use avast with some limitations in the program but however a good antivirus or if i should keep antivir which needs very few system resources and no limitations in the features.

antivir is good if you have the antivir pro then use it untill the updates run out it is like 150 bucks a year   if you use the personal one then give avast a try
