An adware called Right Surf has found it's way onto my browser. I am not 100% sure if it is malware and not legitimate. when I click on certain ads generated it Avast blocks the page and says it's a Mal URL, but when I click on "about this ad" on certain ads it sends me to a legitimate seeming page saying that Right Surf. Malwaretips DOT COM says:
The RightSurf adware infection is designed specifically to make money. It generates web traffic, collects sales leads for other dubious sites, and will display advertisements and sponsored links within your web browser.
RightSurf it’s technically not a virus, but it does exhibit plenty of malicious traits, such as rootkit capabilities to hook deep into the operating system, browser hijacking, and in general just interfering with the user experience. The industry generally refers to it as a “PUP,” or potentially unwanted program.
And:
RightSurf is an ad-supported (users may see additional banner, search, pop-up, pop-under, interstitial and in-text link advertisements) cross web browser plugin for Internet Explorer, Firefox and Chrome, and distributed through various monetization platforms during installation. RightSurf is typically added when you install another free software (video recording/streaming, download-managers or PDF creators) that had bundled into their installation this adware program. When you install these free programs, they will also install RightSurf as well. Some of the programs that are known to bundle RightSurf include 1ClickDownload, Superfish, Yontoo and FBPhotoZoom. Very often users have no idea where did it come from, so it’s not surprising at all that most of them assume that RightSurf is a virus.
I checked the control panel and the only files downloaded on the same date as RightSurf was OpenOffice.
However, I am not sure how trustworthy Malwaretips is, because RightSurf is displaying ads on Malwaretips' web page. Do you know if Malwaretips is trustworthy, and could you help me through the removal of Because Malware on not I want it 100% undoubtedly gone!
